    July 21, 2008--CFS is pleased to announce our second Distinguished Speakers Series event featuring Dr. Thomas Grisso, Professor of Psychiatry, Director of Psychology, and Director of the Law-Psychiatry Program at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. Dr. Grisso will present at our Fresno campus November 6 and at our Los Angeles campus on November 7, 2008. CFS Fresno Program Director Bill Holcomb, PhD comments, "Thomas Grisso is probably the most well known and well respected living forensic psychologist and his work has influenced major legislation and the law, including major Supreme Court decisions and the recent revision of juvenile competency law in California." The event is free and open to current and prospective CFS students and Alliant faculty, students, and staff.

     

    July 3, 2008--Join us! The Institute of Violence Abuse and Trauma is hosting its 13th annual international conference September 12-17th in San Diego at the Town and Country Resort and Convention Center.

     

    June 27, 2008- Incoming Fresno student Staff Sergeant William D. Kammerer is named 2008 Airman of the Year by the California National Guard. Staff Sergeant Kammerer is a satellite, wideband and telemetry systems journeyman. He volunteered for duty in Iraq and was selected three times for airborne missions--and was awarded the Air Force Achievement Medal.

     

    June 6, 2008- Newsweek.com is working with CFS Director Eric Hickey, Ph.D. and CFS students Candace Caro, Jon Kingi, Alvin Lae, Ph.D., Seaira Reedy, M.S., Ryan Solomon, and Rozanna Tross, M.A. on a story about the history of American serial killers. Look for it on Newsweek.com soon.

    May 27, 2008- The International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services announces its concurrent sessions schedule for their 8th Annual Conference. The IAFMHS has accepted six papers from CFS students for presnetation at their next conference in Vienna, Austria. The students are: Shiloh Cantanese, M.A., Samantha James, M.A., Rose Jung, M.A., Anna Belisa Kafka, M.A., Natalie Lindemann, M.A., Avetis Topchyan, M.A., Hilary Tryttan, M.A., and Sammie Williams, Psy.D. CFS faculty members Drs. Robert A. Leark, Sherry Skidmore and Bill Holcomb are co-presenters.  

     

    May 12, 2008--Ocean 98.1FM in Ocean City, Maryland hosts Dr. Eric Hickey for a discussion on keeping your family safe from predators at the beach this summer.

     

    May 12, 2008--The Association of Threat Assessment Professionals accepted a presentation from San Diego faculty member Glenn Lipson, Ph.D. on violence risk assessment in the family law arena.  Dr. Lipson will present with Commander Wayne Maxey of the San Diego District Attorney's office and Charlie Kim, J.D.

     

    May 9, 2008--The California Association of Hostage Negotiators has invited Fresno faculty Dr. Jana Price-Sharps to speak on negotiating with methanphetamine addicts, and later on negotiating with people with mental illness.

    May 8, 2008--
    CFS Director Dr. Eric Hickey will discuss predators with
    MANCOW on his morning radio show on Thursday May 15 at 7:35am central time.

    May 7, 2008--CJAD-AM Montreal and CFRB-AM Toronto radio host Peter Anthony Holder interviews Dr. Eric Hickey on forensic psychology, criminal profiling, and serial killers.

    May 6, 2008--Dr. Eric Hickey will be interviewed on NPR-San Diego 89.5FM on Wednesday, May 7 from 9-10am on the program These Days. Listen Live.

    May 5, 2008-- Fresno faculty Jana Price-Sharps, Ed.D. is the President of the Society for Police and Criminal Psychology, a nonprofit professional organization that encourages the scientific study of police and criminal psychology and the application of scientific knowledge to problems in criminal justice.     May 5, 2008-- Fresno CFS Students Stephanie Starnes and Bethany Raines have been selected by the Center for Public Policy of the Czech Ministry of the Interior to attend the Summer School on Crime, Law, and Psychology 2008 in Prague, Czech Republic this July.  

    April 28, 2008--San Diego Program Director Robert A. Leark, Ph.D. had a peer-reviewed paper accepted for poster presentation at the 6th Annual Conference of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology in Boston this July. Paper title: Using the Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA) to detect deliberate poor performance during assessment of attention.

     

    April 28, 2008--San Diego Program Director Robert A. Leark, Ph.D. had a peer-reviewed paper accepted for poster presentation at the 6th Annual Conference of the American Academy of Clinical Neuropsychology in Boston this July.

    April 22, 2008--CFS hosts a workshop sponsored by the Fresno Area Psychological Association: Reading Emotions and Non-Verbal Behavior in Others, June 6-7 from 9am to 5pm at Alliant's Fresno campus. For more information, email us.

    CFS Systemwide Director Dr. Eric Hickey talks with the Fresno Bee about recents threats of school violence that caused several area schools to go into lockdown.

    Fresno faculty Dr. Jana Price-Sharps and Dr. Amy Tillery will present at the Western Psychological Association conference. Dr. Price-Sharps will present twice, on 'stress in law enforcement' and 'the relationship between personality traits substance abuse and gender in rural adolescents'. Dr. Tillery will present on 'dissociation and substance abuse: examining the impact of drug preference.'

    CFS announces a new doctoral program in Forensic Psychology at Alliant's San Diego campus beginning August 2008.


    The Center for Undergraduate Education announces a degree completion program in criminal justice, beginning August 2008.



    The Forensic Mental Health Association of California provided two of three conference scholarships to L.A. CFS students Tiffany Steur and Karin Thebus.


    The International Association of Forensic Mental Health Services has accepted six papers from CFS students for presentation at their next conference in Vienna, Austria. The students are: Shilo Cantanese, M.A., Samantha James, M.A., Rose Jung, M.A., Anna Belisa Kafka, M.A., Natalie Lindemann, M.A., Avetis Topchyan, M.A., Hilary Tryttan, M.A., and SammieWilliams, Psy.D. Dr.s Leark, Skidmore,and Holcomb are secondary authors.


    CFS is now offering a Post-doctoral Certificate in Forensic Psychology. The program is designed for the working professional, meeting once a month for approximately 14 months. The program will be overseen by Dr. Robert A. Leark. For more information, email us.

    Forensic Psychology Psy.D. student Michelle Wright had an article accepted for publication in Neuromodulation: Journal of the International Neuromodulation Society.Philip Corrado, Ph.D. and Burton Alperson, Ph.D. are co-authors. The article will appear in Volume 11, No. 2, in April 2008.

    Avetis Topchyan, a forensic psychology Psy.D. studnent at the Los Angeles campus, is presented research at the American Psychology-Law Society Conference in March 2008. Drs. Leark and Skidmore are co-presenters. Read the Read the press release.

    CFS Systemwide Director Eric Hickey, Ph.D. comments on serial killer Gary Michael Hilton in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. 

    Dr. Jana Price-Sharps, Assistant Professor at our Fresno campus, received the prestigious Citizen’s Award from the Fresno/Madera Police Chiefs Foundation.

    Interim Program Director for San Diego Robert A. Leark, Ph.D is presenting at a  symposium (new ways of child pyschosomatic rehabilitation) in Scheidegg, Germany on April 11, 2008. His presentation will focus on ADHD.
